Tanzania offers free land to global construction manufacturers

13 November 2018

In a bid to kickstart domestic industry, the government of Tanzania has offered free, “well surveyed” parcels of land to international manufacturers of construction materials and equipment.

The offer lasts until December, minister for land, William Lukuvi told exhibitors at construction exhibition Buildexpo on 30 October, newspaper The Citizen reported. “I am happy that you are here to showcase your modern construction materials, but I wish you could install plants for manufacturing them locally instead of importing them,” Lukuvi said.

“Whoever is interested should come to my office from tomorrow and I will give you a well surveyed piece of land,” he added. He claimed 800 plots had been set aside at Kibaha, but said the offer applies to the whole country. Lukuvi also promised to help investors deal with other ministries and regulatory bodies, said the Citizen.

“I know some of you have not tried the Tanzanian market before, but I assure you that you will not regret investing here. No company has operated at a loss in this country as the market is huge and the business environment is conducive,” the minister said.
