CITY TO OPEN R23-MILLION PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE IN DIEPSLOOT

07 August 2019

The
Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has announced that it will officially open the
R23-million pedestrian bridge in Diepsloot on Wednesday, 7 August.

According to a statement by the
JRA, “The bridge will play a significant role in the lives of residents
particularly pupils crossing the wetland.”

The bridge links Diepsloot’s Ext
1 and 2, providing safe passage during times of heavy rains and flash
floods.  “The bridge forms part of the City of Johannesburg’s
commitment to improving public safety and mobility of communities. It also
serves to provide easy access to services such as shopping facilities,
community amnesties and health facilities.”

Construction
started on 7 May last year and although the bridge is currently 98% complete,
it is set to be opened on Wednesday.

The completion date is scheduled for mid-August. Backfilling within ramp walls, a slab to the ramp and additional works such as electrification, concrete block paving and rehabilitation in terms of the environmental health requirements are still outstanding. https://fourwaysreview.co.za/310511/city-open-r23-million-pedestrian-bridge-diepsloot/
