RELIABLE, PREDICTABLE POWER IN TEN SECONDS?

17 July 2020

Atlas Copco’s QES mobile generator range is the most practical predictable power choice, combining performance, efficiency, and reliability to seamlessly meet the standby power requirements of the construction and rental industries.

“Whether paralleling, load sharing or power exporting, these generators have been specially engineered with our customers’ requirements top of mind, providing them with the very best air delivery solution,” says David Stanford, Atlas Copco Power Technique Business Line Manager – Portable Products. “Our standpoint is that the generators belong to our customers so why not design the machines the way our customers want them?”

With a 100% load step capability and available in 20 size options, from the small QES 9 up to the range’s flagship, the QES 1250kVA, the QES range is all about the delivery of power as soon as possible in as few steps as possible. Subsequently, the machines are defined by simplicity – easy to move, operate and service.

Mobility and agility

As the need for power can be anywhere on a job site, first and foremost is the generator’s mobile capabilities. Hence the machines’ boast an ultra-compact footprint for easy portability and storage. The heavy-duty base frame is built for frequent mobilisation and is able to withstand up to four times the weight of the generator. Furthermore, integrated forklift slots and a lifting beam facilitate lifting. The generator can also be easily and safely transported on a road trailer which Atlas Copco can supply. “Two generators can also be stacked on top of each other saving space as less storage is required, as well as time as two units can be moved simultaneously,” notes Stanford.

From zero to hero in ten seconds

Once the generator is on the job site, it is quick and easy to install, thanks to the plug-and-play cable connection, ready to operate in just a few seconds. From a cold start and with only two clicks to power, full stable power is reached in less than ten seconds. The unit’s ergonomic terminal board features a QC manual/remote start digital controller with independent control and power panels, a 4-pole main circuit breaker, earth leakage protection and an emergency stop.  Fitted with larger capacity fuel tanks, the QES generators can run for a full eight hour shift at up to 500 hours of granted autonomy at full load before requiring refueling (depending on fuel tank configuration). The externally fitted fuel fill cap speeds up the refueling process and there is also an option to connect to an external fuel tank.

The sound attenuated and rugged steel enclosure protects workers against noise while the environmentally friendly spillage-free frame removes the risk of ground contamination. The powerful, reliable, fuel-efficient, low exhaust gas emission power pack helps to reduce the customer’s carbon footprint.

These dependable generators deliver power irrespective of how tough the conditions and are capable of operating at temperatures from -25°C to 50°C. The protective galvanised corrosion- and water-proof treated steel canopy is corrosion-resistant for up to ten years. The base frame’s powder-paint coating and its double-layer paint are subjected to a 720- hour and 480-hour spray test respectively, ensuring unmatched corrosion resistance.

Easy service and maintenance

With a market-leading 500 hour service interval and a short sub-two hour service routine, these machines will contribute to increased uptime and high production and productivity levels on any job site. Maintenance is also straightforward; large doors and service plates and an externally-mounted fuel fill cap and drain points facilitate accessibility to components.

Available with a variety of mechanical and electrical options, customers are assured of always having the right sockets to connect their load.  The single phase option is suited for a lower power output required for example by a handheld tool or pump, while the CEE 400 V from 16 A to 125 A sockets are ideal when maximum power output is needed from the generator.

Atlas Copco has incorporated many years of experience in the global construction environment into the development and design of the QES range. “The machine’s performance, reliability and life-cycle are as good as the sum of its parts,” notes Stanford. “Our mandate is therefore to engineer rather than assemble our generators to ensure that the complete design, right down to the smallest component, is focused on quality and durability to deliver high uptime, extended generator life and low maintenance costs for lowest total cost of ownership.”
