Over 13,000 participants flocked to the Kenyatta International Convention Centre eager to play a role in boosting the local construction sector.
The week brought together two major events, the International Construction Research Conference and Exhibition (ICoRCE) and The Big 5 Construct East Africa.
Set to promote and uplift the construction industry, the two events form the National Construction Week. The flagship conference of the week, ICoRCE is organized by the National Construction Authority, and official exhibition The Big 5 Construct East Africa is organized by dmg events.
Prof. Paul Maringa, PS State Department of Public Works opened the events. He remarked on the conference: “Research is the cornerstone of development, and this forum is a stepping stone towards propelling our country to the top 50 in the World Ease of Doing Business Index, and attaining the Big Four Agenda.”
Speaking on the legal research conducted throughout the conference, Kennedy Ogeto, Solicitor General added: “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that we develop an efficient legal framework to assure quality in the construction industry.”
Opening The Big 5 Construct East Africa 2018 and ICoRCE 2018, Hon. William Kabogo, Former Kiambu County Governor and proprietor Iguta Paradise Homes remarked: “Products on display at the international expo were extremely rich in both variety and quality. “The show is really important for the industry – Kenyans usually have to travel far for these kinds of products but now we have them at home. The event really is bringing the world to Nairobi.”
At its second edition, The Big 5 Construct East Africa 2018 welcomed over 220 exhibitors from around world to KICC. Representing 33 countries, exhibitors at the event came prepared to work with local companies in support of the Nation’s building boom.
His Excellency Nikolaos Terens Spencer Quick, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Greece, commented on the side-lines of the exhibition: “I am very much impressed with what The Big 5 Construct East Africa is doing here and it shows the capabilities of the economy here in Kenya. Today we have agreed to continue our business mission to improve our relations and to establish better cooperation with your country and with your businesses.”
With over 13,000 participants, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Economic Affairs at Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Nairobi, Michael Derus said: “In the three years that I have been in Nairobi, this event had by far the greatest attendance at an opening I have ever seen.”
