09 March 2018

The inaugural edition of The Big 5 Heavy is set to take place at the Dubai Word Trade Centre from 26 to 28 March, 2018.

Organised by dmg events Middle East, Asia and Africa, the event is the re-launch of the former Middle East Concrete and PMV Live shows, part of The Big 5 portfolio of events.

The Big 5 Heavy will host over 300 exhibitors from 27 exhibiting countries, spread across four dedicated product sectors, namely Middle East Concrete, PMV Live, Foundations and Geotechnical, and Mining and Quarrying. In addition to international and local exhibitors, the event will feature CPD-certified content and an outdoor demonstration area.Designed to cater to the needs of the concrete, construction, mining, and quarrying machinery industries, The Big 5 Heavy 2018 will bring a trade platform to property developers, local municipalities, and government authorities.

Richard Pavitt, event director for The Big 5 Heavy, said: “Concrete equipment, tower cranes, earth moving machines, drilling, and mining don’t traditionally sit within a building materials show like The Big 5. There is a specific need for a standalone heavy construction exhibition that caters to the Middle East market.

“The GCC infrastructure expansion continues at a breathless pace despite recent headwinds, and The Big 5 Heavy is bringing all the major buyers and manufacturers together.”According to a BNC Network report, put together for The Big 5 Heavy, there are about 22,902 active projects, valued at $2.4tn in the GCC alone.

The report further noted that the total value of tender announcements increased in 2017 by 50.2%, emphasising the crucial role of heavy machinery in the region’s construction and building industry.Eng Ghaith Yaseen of exhibitor Deewan Equipment Trading, commented: “GCC countries are the fastest developing countries in the world.“Vision 2030 and Vision 2050 have placed time-based development plans in all sectors, including infrastructure, housing, environment, transportation, technology, and industry.

The event’s education agenda includes a two-day seminar series to be presented by the American Concrete Institute; and the Geotechnical and Foundations Engineering Summit, sponsored by Total Foundations Solutions and organised in cooperation with Deep Foundations Institute; as well as project management and mining and quarrying CPD-certified workshops.

The Big 5 Heavy is free to attend and will run from 10am to 6pm.
