Cement & Concrete SA (CCSA) provides a comprehensive service on concrete industrial floors, ranging from training, advice and consultations, as well as informative publications and reference sources.

‘Concrete Industrial Floors on the Ground’ aims to help consulting engineers and contractors overcome most problems

Hanlie Turner, Business Development Manager of CCSA, says the Institute has established that problems associated with flooring usually fall into two main categories: design and detailing, and construction practice.

“CCSA’s School of Concrete Technology’s training on ‘Concrete Industrial Floors on the Ground’ aims to help consulting engineers and contractors overcome most of these problems. The syllabus is extensive and covers, for example, design, joints, reinforcement, and surface finishing. The training on construction covers the selection of materials, construction of the sub-grade and sub-base, concrete requirements, as well as construction and finishing of concrete industrial floors,” Turner states.

The SCT21 one-day flooring training will be presented by the School at its Midrand premises on September 19 this year and arrangements for special courses can be discussed with the School of Concrete Technology.

Free publications on flooring produced by CCSA include, for example, “Repairing Spalled Joints in Concrete Floors” and “Sand-cement Floor Screeds and Concrete Toppings for Floors”, both of which can be downloaded from the CCSA website. The acclaimed handbook, “Concrete industrial Floors on the Ground” by CCSA CEO, Bryan Perrie, and the late Louis Marais, can be purchased from the CCSA Information Centre.

“CCSA can also provide advisory service on all aspects of concrete flooring and our Information Centre stocks a wealth of reference material on the subject,” Turner adds.

Further information on concrete floors and relevant training courses can be obtained by phoning 011 315 0300 or visiting the CCSA website.
