Cement & Concrete SA has been recognised as a Voluntary Association (VA) by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
Bryan Perrie, CEO of CCSA, says the ‘Category B’ recognition – in terms of Section 25 of the Engineering Profession Act (Act No 46 of 2000) – has substantial benefits for CCSA members. “CCSA members registered with ECSA can now claim one Continuing Professional Development (CPD) point for their membership and receive a discount on their ECSA fees,” Perrie states.
He says ECSA’s VA status confirms CCSA’s rightful place as a professional member-based body in the South African built environment landscape.
CCSA, the leaders for all matters relating to cement and concrete in South Africa, was established in March 2021, through the consolidation of The Concrete Institute (TCI), Concrete Society of Southern Africa (CCSA), and the Association of Cementitious Material Producers (ACMP).
Perrie urged all CCSA members with suitable qualifications, or are candidates involved in training for qualifications, to register with ECSA to be eligible to use the abbreviations “Pr Eng”, “Pr Tech Eng”, “Pr Cert Eng”, “Pr Techni Eng”, or “Candidate Eng” after their names.
“Individuals can register as Professionals (professional engineers, technologists, technicians, and certificated engineers) or Candidates (engineers, technologists, technicians, or certificated engineers). A person may not practice in any of the categories in the Professional section unless he, or she, is registered in that category,” he adds.
